HOW TO VOTE

Eligible voters must complete a voter registration form and return it to the Winneshiek County Auditor’s Office before election day to cast a ballot in the September 10 or November 5 elections. This office is located on the second floor of the Winneshiek County Courthouse at 201 W. Main St., in Decorah.

 

SEPTEMBER 10 ELECTION

For the September 10 election, in-person absentee voting begins August 21 and can be performed at the Winneshiek County Auditor's Office weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A valid ID will be needed.

 

Registered voters can request a mailed absentee ballot by completing a request form and returning it to the auditor's office. The deadline to submit this request is August 26. Ballots must be received by the county auditor’s office before the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on September 10 to be considered for counting.

 

The polls will be open on September 10 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and all voting will take place at the courthouse annex in Decorah. A valid ID will be needed in order to cast a ballot.

 

NOVEMBER 5 ELECTION

The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on November 5. You can find your polling location on the Iowa Secretary of State's website or by contacting the Winneshiek County Auditor’s Office.

 

Registered voters can request a mailed absentee ballot through the county auditor's office. To receive a mailed ballot, complete a request form and return it to the auditor's office.

 

The first day that a mailed absentee ballot can be requested is August 27. The county auditor's office will begin mailing ballots on October 17.  The deadline to request a mailed ballot is October 21.

 

Ballots must be received by the county auditor’s office before the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on November 5 to be considered for counting.

 

In-person absentee voting begins October 16 at the Winneshiek County Auditor’s Office. This office is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and  located on the second floor of the county courthouse at 201 W. Main St., in Decorah.
